Battle of the Bands Series
August – November 2010

Objective

The Inaugural Crockett Foundation Battle of the Bands Series will be hosted in the Fall of 2010 to benefit educational and community service programs in South Florida. Through this extraordinary event, the Crockett Foundation seeks to create a platform for local high school band student participants to showcase their skills to the local community and college recruiters alike, with the hopes of increasing scholarship funding for those students who plan on pursuing a four year university degree.

Event Overview

The Crockett Foundation will host four (3) preliminary band competitions in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties beginning in August 2009. The winning bands will be selected by audience members in attendance utilizing text messaging to send their vote for the band that they feel is most deserving to move on to the finals. Three bands will be selected from each county to participate on November 13, 2010 Battle of the Bands Grand Finale competition. The grand prize winner will be selected by a celebrity panel of judges at the final competition on November 13th. The Crockett Foundation will be extending invitations to Bethune Cookman University (BCC Marching Wildcats) and Florida A&M University (Marching 100) in addition to all local high school bands in Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties throughout the year.

The Pre-Battle Series

There will be three Pre-Battle’s total held in each of the three different counties (Dade, Broward and Palm Beach) on three different dates hosted by three different schools (TBD). The students themselves will select the top three schools from each county that will move on to the Grand Finale on Nov 13, 2010 at the American Airlines Arena by text message voting.

Battle of the Bands Grand Finale

The Battle of the Bands Grand Finale will be held November 13, 2010 at the American Airlines Arena and will consist of the three finalists from each of the three participating counties. Each band will have 10 to 12 minutes to perform before a celebrity panel of 9 judges who will determine the Grand Prize winner through a point system.

Grand Prize

The winning band will receive the following prizes from the Crockett Foundation:
1. New uniforms.
2. $30K in scholarships.
3. An opportunity to perform during the halftime show of a Miami Dolphins regular season game.
